Purgatory Chasm

I had a fun weekend too - we went to Purgatory Chasm (in Massachusetts, not Middletown).

The Fire Danger was high that day, but we managed to not start any.

Purgatory Chasm consists of many large and small boulders for climbing on, and caves for disappearing into.

Kooger didn't eat enough trail mix along the way.

The old lavatories were in a creepy little stone building with cobwebs and animal scat and bars on the windows. I didn't take a picture of the new lavatories, but they were nice. Just normal lavatories.

After climbing through the chasm we walked the trails, which weren't very long, but WERE very scenic.

  1. That place looks COOL. I wonder why they didn't want anyone escaping from the windows in the cans? Or, I wonder what was in the cans back then that would make people want to escape thru the windows?
