For a while, huge amounts of these blooms were EVERYWHERE, all over Athens.
There were sheets of wusteria much larger than this tangled up in the trees, but I took these pictures while I was pumping gas one day.
Tho the flowers are gone, their scent still hangs in the air, and now we've moved on to honeysuckle season. The honeysuckle flowers aren't nearly as abundant, but their perfume is still very strong, and it still smells wonderful around here. Last night I went riding on some local "underground" trails, and as I was pedaling through weeds neck high, I just kept breathing in sweetness, and sometimes citrus-i-ness, and then I hit the open train tracks and it smelled like chicken scheisse because we were very close to the gross chicken plant. But then I popped back in the woods and it smelled great again...all I had to do was worry about ticks and poison plants. Aaaahhh!
I think it's "wisteria"
ReplyDeleteThe vines are beautiful. Good thing you're not allergic to them.
ReplyDeleteBeware, there could be other creatures in that tall grass.
